In the near future, Kazakhstan plans to abolish the law on the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev – Elbasy.

This was stated by the speaker of the lower house of the country's parliament Yerlan Koshanov. By this law, the first president of Kazakhstan is endowed with a number of privileges and powers as the leader of the nation.

Koltashov explained that in the new amendments to the main law of the country – the Constitution, the status of Elbasy was excluded, only the role of Nazarbayev as the founder of the state would be stipulated.

– After the adoption of these amendments, the law on the first president will also become invalid, the speaker said.

The law on the first president guarantees Nazarbayev that he will not be held accountable for the actions he committed when he was president of the country. The document also guaranteed that Elbasy could not be arrested, detained, taken into custody, interrogated or searched. In addition, the law guaranteed the inviolability of the property of Nazarbayev himself and his family members who live together with the Elbasy.
