25 years ago, December 25, 1991 was the last day of the existence of the Soviet Union, our Motherland, the Great Power, which we endlessly lost. On this day, the State Flag of the USSR was launched, the RSFSR was officially renamed the Russian Federation, and the President of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev announced his resignation and handed over the “nuclear suitcase” to the USSR Minister of Defense Evgeny Shaposhnikov.

In the morning of December 25, 1991, a meeting of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR was held, which approved the Law of the RSFSR N 2094 I “On a change in the name of the state of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic” for the new name – the Russian Federation. On the same day, this law was signed by the President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin.

At about 17:00 Moscow time, two telephone conversations of the President of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev took place: with US President George Bush (senior) and German Foreign Minister Hans Dietrich Gensher.

US President Mikhail Gorbachev said that two hours later he would make an application for departure from the post of President of the USSR. Gorbachev expressed the hope that the countries of Europe and the United States will support the recently created CIS as interstate education, as well as with common efforts to support Russia.

In response, George Bush assured that America would maintain interest in Russian affairs. “You will be a welcome guest, we will be happy to accept you after everything settles,” he promised Gorbachev.

Hans Dietrich Gensher thanked Mikhail Gorbachev for his contribution to the unification of Germany: The hearts and gratitude of the Germans will forever remain with you. Mikhail Gorbachev assured the minister that he would continue to promote the rapprochement of the East and West.

At about 19:00 Moscow time, Mikhail Gorbachev signed a decree “On the President of the USSR by the President of the Supreme Commander -in -Chief of the Armed Forces of the USSR and the abolition of the Defense Council under the President of the USSR”.

At 19:00 Moscow time, the USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev made a live broadcast of central television with a resignation statement. After Mikhail Gorbachev returned to his office in the Kremlin to transfer nuclear ciphers to Boris Yeltsin to President Boris Yeltsin.

Nevertheless, the meeting between them did not take place that day. Gorbachev was met by the Minister of Defense of the USSR Evgeny Shaposhnikov. Yeltsin, dissatisfied with the content of Gorbachev’s last speech, refused to take nuclear ciphers in the office of the former president and proposed to carry out this procedure in another room of the Kremlin, on the “neutral territory”.But Mikhail Gorbachev did not agree with this proposal and without any television cameras handed over to Shaposhnikov two colonels who everywhere and constantly accompanied the head of state, responsible for the nuclear suitcase.

On the same day, US President George Bush (senior) announced the official recognition of the United States of Independence of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

So my homeland was taken from me. My beautiful homeland, my Soviet Union.
I remember this, I did not forget anything. I want to return my homeland.
Sooner or later, I will definitely return it.
